I have a dark campbell duck who was laying in the old chicken coup, but it was at the exposed end where crows could see and steal her eggs. I thought I would try and move her nest complete with the fake egg I have been putting in her nest for weeks a metre away in another corner. I then placed a block in the old site. Well this morning she has made a nest and laid her egg out in the open which is worse than the first. Fortuately I was able to save the egg before the crows got it. First in over a week. Is there a way I can encourage her to nest where I want

good luck, I am still trying to stop my buffs from laying their eggs in their food bowl, when you work out a way please let us know so I can try it on them

Oh dear, doesn't sound encouraging. I might try and get her back in the coup. I have put this question on BYP, hopefully some one has found the magic cure

I am thinking about this problem and thought if she goes back to the original nest site, I would then put something under it so it becomes mobile and every few days move it a little bit towards the position I want. What do you think, has it been tried before?

great idea, if all else fails trickery usually works, let us know how you get on. ;D

Well that didn't work, I only filled in the new nest. I might try the block again and see if that works. The crows didn't get this mornings egg either, it was so small she almost buried it. I will persist with my experiment

Once again thinking about the problem, I have decided I will shut them in the duck coup overnight, that way she has no choice but to lay in there and the crows will not be able to get her eggs

Talk about frustration, she didn't lay today. I will persevere.

We are now back to square 1. She is laying in the original site. Just locked her in for a few nights and she got the message. Now for the stealth, to start moving the nest slowly

good luck, hopefully it will work and be the same principle as when you have a moveable coop and the chooks are let out each day to free range in the morning and supposedly if it is only moved a short distance they still go back to it to go to bed.
