Just popping in so say hi. Heather from frankland here. I didn't realise everyone had moved here when chook net went to the dogs. Chooky, canna kid, organic girl and chookboyandchookgirl, I missed you guys! Anyway, not much has changed with me except more chickens and a few years older. Chat soon!

Heather, Welcome! Yes, a few of us are here, though not as active as in Chooknet. I have less chooks these days and trying to keep it that way. Was getting a bit out of control at one stage but Mr Fox took care of that. Now I have about a dozen hens for eggs and I hatch a few chicks every couple months for meat.
Are you still breeding Hamburgs or have you diversified into other breeds?

Hi Chooky! Yes I still have silver spangled Hamburgs, just breed a few for myself and friends. I got some new Pekins last year so have been breeding a few of those this past year. No particular colours, just mixed pretty ones. I also have a few salmon faverolles and a bunch of cross breeds which all have names of course so will live out their days here. I will try post some pics later. Everyone loves pics right?

Sounds like you have expanded your flock quite a bit then.
How is the weather down your way? It is hot up here the past week or so. Lost 4 hens to the heat last week. A real shame, I was hoping to get a few chicks from my one and only indian game hen. Will have to track down some eggs when it cools down a bit.
I have about 3 dozen eggs in the incubator at the moment. Fingers cross as few of then are hers.

I lost a couple of hens to the heat the other week. The one hot day I wasn't home to refil waters during the day and give them a chance to cool down. My flock isn't huge, just got a few new ones and Pekins don't count cause they live in the backyard! Haha cute little fluffy bums they are

I like pekins. They cute and friendly little birds. But they get broody too often. Otherwise, I'll keep them.
