I have wanted to clear out some breeds for a long time now but with health issues travel back to Perth three times a week it was getting hard but this week I got to it and gave away my silkys, Plymouth Rocks, wheatens, buff sussex, one lot of hampshires and one lot of my wellsummes still left with 5 or 6 breeds and the ducks now totalling 50 on the ground now I can get back to the rear breeds and start the hunt all over gain
:)WOW.... You are/where serious.... I've got three breed of Chooks & three breeds of pigeons.... plus alpaca/KOI/dogs ... it's a full time job...with garden/pots... watering... but loveb it all, long retired & keeps me very busy... ...tomorrow need to collect 2 x bee swarms..... forgot & bee hives..
Hope you health issues sort them self out or your able to Manage it... . as it makes life very hard, without your health & sense of humor... gota' go... had nanny nap... gr.
:DSussex all out today...25.... too died/gave up..peaking....but didn't get them in time... makes 27... three eggs not fertile...so very happy... the problem their are 20 Pekins in there also & not a sign of movement!!!... maybe tomorrow!... bloody Paddy & his 18 days!!...
another good hit rate well done I have at last done with the trips to Perth I have a six month rest great now I can get on with this place again just have to cover up well and try not to let the sun get to me for a few weeks that will be hard as I love being outdoors the last lot of ducklings have hatched out another dozen to play with we are not trying to build a plucking device just hanging on for parts and she should go this will save me a load of time if it works they are asking from $ 900 for one we will see
$900... to pluck a duck!!... saw a chicken plucker on Gem tree a few months back... look like a honey spinner with black teats/like tits on a cow,,,, no idea how it worked... Apart from that Merry X'mas...Quambie & Family... been busy trying to sort out KOI pond problem!.. & still working at it!... just came to put dinner on stove... gone..:-)
Thank you and the same to you and yours as for the plucker what you had a look at is about it black teats I have 100 of them on there way the idea is to wet your chook or what you want to pluck in hot water then you turn it on and get the bird into it it takes about 3 mins for duck and about 1.min 30 sec for a chook buy you will get left with a few tail feathers that's all should be able to make one for about $ 200.00 from scratch it took ages to do the last 8 ducklings getting the last of the pin feathers out took loads of time
Room for some more then. Too hot to incubate any eggs at the moment. Will start at the end of March. Now the task at hand is keeping them cool.
Lost my light sussex hen last week in the heat. She was fine in the morning when I let them out to free range. She returned to the nest to lay but died due to the heat. She would have been fine had she sat under a tree.
Sorry Chooky.. feel like that when something dies... Lost A Beautiful young King Swabb...out & about from Canker...I drugged him for days & was sure we'd beaten it, then yesterday their he was cold dead... . I've got a bunch of eggs in incubator as we speak...due out in about 10 days...(same old thing, someone ordered 3 dozen & a no show)... so in they went...:-)... I still have a dozen eggs for you, when ever your near here... .. enjoy as am going to take Dogs for a swim...
Do you ever have problems incubating in summer when the atmospheric temp is higher than 37 degrees? I ran the incubator in summer one year and the room temp was so high it push the incubator temp to nearly 39 degrees. Some managed to hatch but mostly with leg and toe issues.
Can't remember...but don't think so.... last week we had the 44... but in the Laundry I'm sure it wasn't that hot... & only one day... but will let you know in 10 days.. .... the very hot weather have shut down the egg numbers... got 5 eggs from 20 hens today... ...15 really...one has chicks & 4 locked up in clucky jail & 5th Hens left on nest to take chicks when they come out...that's the plan.... would hope for 30 chicks from 40 eggs... time will tell... anyway enjoy...
