They will be 6 weeks old this weekend. I am quite sure it is a she though I have been wrong many times before. Looks like you'll be busy building pens with more breeds and birds in your collection.

Harvested our first lot of Indian Game crosses this morning. They are quite impressive, at around 6 months old, full breast muscle and drums. Almost like those from the supermarkets.
Will cross the IG with the light sussex pullets and see what we end up with. This cross is suppose to produce the best tasting bird.

Second batch of eggs in the incubator this year. First batch should hatch on Monday, second batch in 2 weeks time. Fertility of both batches very poor. First batch, 18 eggs set, looks like only 2 chicks will hatch. Second batch, 14 eggs set, candled last night showed only 4 possibles.
Blame the heat? The rooster?

Being the only rooster in the pen, I think he is too complacent. When he had a bit of competition, he was really active and fertility was good. Since the young cockerels started chilling in the freezer, I think he has gotten a bit lazy. The next batch of cockerels will be active soon. That should hopefully wake him up and get him working again.

Got 7 chicks out of 13 eggs. Happy with that. 3 remaining eggs left in the incubator. Hopefully they will hatch. The sussex pullets have started laying, I think. A different coloured egg showed up in the nest today. So I'll set more eggs in a few weeks time.
