Is anyone breeding yet? The cooler weather is slowly encouraging the girls to lay more eggs.

Do you still have growers? I expected all your young birds to be in the outside pens by now.

the very hot summer slowed the growth right down most of them are still small , I don't think any will be show birds this year

They are smaller because they eat less in the heat? I hatched a few first week of January. They look ok sizewise.
It is unusually warm this weekend.

I have some Langshan that are now 25 weeks old and have just started laying, so the heat hasn't affected that side of things. Now for next breeding season so I can increase my numbers.

My australorp hen laid her first egg of the year today. The other hens are still moulting. I don't expect to get any eggs from them for a while. The IG "pullet" turned out to be a cockerel. At the moment, I have too many cockerels, 4 NH, 1 IG, 1 Australorp and 1 LS. I need get rid of some cockerels. I'll probably just keep the IG and process the rest. Need to fine some fertile eggs in the coming month.

Any one breeding light sussex? I have been trying to source some eggs for the incubator.

I don't think the light sussex would be laying just yet . I don't breed them just have one old hen left, the demand for fertile eggs is increasing and my chooks are now slowing up . I did sell 30 a couple weeks back and since then the demand for pure bred pullets has increased dramaticlly in Gero.

Looks like my IG rooster is firing blanks. None of the eggs collected in the past 3 weeks are fertile.
