The worst thing ever has happened. My gorgeous grandson was over for the night and when I checked the incubator around 11am I noticed the lid was slightly ajar....what the? I then looked at the cords they were hanging out of the socket and the switch was off. I quickly plugged them in and turned on the switch and the auto turner motor promptly blew up. Staying calm and collected, felt the eggs, freezing cold. Oh no, when did he turn it off. Must have been either early this morning or last night. Reset the cut out switch, hubby, who was thankfully home, checked the incubator and said only the turner was gone. Fantastic I will give these eggs every chance and turned it back on without the turner. 4 hours later my daughter candled my duck eggs and it looks like we still have movement in a couple. I took the auto turner all the way back to Baldivis and the very nice man fixed it on the spot, no charge. He told me his son was thrown by one of these motors recently when he was checking it. It will be going back to America for investigation. I grilled my grandson after I found the lid ajar but he just looked at me very confused as though he had no idea what I was talking about. (He is 5 and has developmental delay, so his understanding is of about a 2 to 3 year old and even then at times of even younger). I told him he had broken my incubator and was not to touch it. He knew his Nana was not happy.
So maybe at the end of the day even with this disaster we still maybe able to hatch some eggs. Will keep you posted in a couple of weeks

The auto turner motor on my incubator blew after 24hrs of operation, so had to manual turn for a week until new motor arrived. Don't think I lost any to that. Now the thermostat light has blown, but luckily the thermostat still works. Will have to send away fro a replacement one of those too.

Good luck with the eggs fluffychook. We had a power cut at school and we had three eggs in the small incubator. They had been with out power for five hours so we (me and a fellow teacher) put them down our clevage to warm them. Sounds ridiculous I know. We then had a parent take them home to where they had power. It was a nervous wait but a week later all three hatched. There is still hope for your eggs.

Oh and I have been reprimanded by my lovely daughter for claiming ownership of HER duck eggs, because they are HER ducks. Well she does have red hair, ducking for cover here.

good luck with the eggs fluffy, hopefully not all is lost. wish I could draw cartoon type pictures of chooken and her co teacher with the eggs, it would be a fantastic picture. Just a thought, there are alarms that you can purchase for incubators for when there is a power or temp problem, I dont know whether they would work in your circumstances, but it might be worth investigating.

Great news, all the eggs have survived, so must have been off only a couple of hours. They are due in a fortnight so hopefully all goes well. This is my first lot of duck eggs which I originally had under my silkie hens. I found they were not able to turn them and everything was all on one side so put them into the incubator.
