Trev,
What poison would work quickly on a dog? I tried once with a combination of ratsak and snail pellets in mince around the chook pen. All of them were taken but no sign of the foxes. I did that back in summer after losing a few chooks.

unfortunately the only legal one is the 1080 , I would try getting hold of the neighbour behind you and see if he has a licence he might have the same trouble and be willing to help to solve the problem together. I haven't done my application yet so I can't access any to give you a little bit yet.

The other thing I am considering is electric wires around the property. There are solar powered energizers for sale on Ebay that will power up to 8kms. That should be enough for my place.

Oh I had a post here that never went up. with the electric work out how many Km and you need to include each wire not just 1 unless you were going to do a belly wire then double that and that's the rateing you need to get so 8Km would be suitable for up to 4 Km of wire , does that make sense to you chooky The other I thought I had posted was to ask you neighbour over the back to see if he is having trouble too and see if you can work together ( he may have access to the 1080 baits ) the best used to be stricknine but you can't get that anymore either.

So you mean, two 4 km wires at different heights for the one energizer? They are fairly cheap these days.
I have never met the neighbour at the back. I don't think they live on the property. There is only a shed there, no house. I have actually only ever seen a person there once, 3 years back. He was right at the other end of his property. I don't think he even saw me. I'll have to drive up to the shed to see if anyone is there over the weekend.
In the mean time, I'll get a few more spring jaw traps.

Good luck 1080 would be the best for you where you are chooky good luck with the hot wire its a lot of expense for a dog i do run a hot wire around the chook pens have always done that but i still get the odd fox or cat try there luck you hear them at night when they have touched the wire, remember that a dog is smart thats why there hard to get wild dogs are $ 500.00 per skin and there are verry few dogers left to keep them down as this thread has been going on there was another dog shot next to us a bull mastive a pet that had escaped with its mate the mate got away but the mastive got shot in the paddock one expencive dog dead because the owner could not keep it in at night and it liked to worrie sheep Trev

I might pester the ranger again. Hopefully they will place the baits at my place. It is the perfect place for it too. We don't have any dogs and neither do our immediate neighbours.

What would be really good would be to find the irresponsible owner and make them pay for the damaged caused.

thats why you leave the dead dog in your paddock the ranger can do the rest if you take it out you have a problem proving that the dog was even there killing your stock you have to ply dirty to stop the killing Trev

I suppose if I caught the dog in a trap, I'll leave it there until the ranger shows up. The owner wouldn't be too happy when they find out their dog has been caught in a spring jaw trap.

Trev,
I have done that before last summer. I mixed RatSak and snail pellets in with some nice mince. I left bits of it all along the fence line. All of them disappeared but I never knew if it was effective.

I bet a lot will eat it and not live for long afterwards, could be you just got shot of a lot of wild cats from around your place well done it will take its toll on dogs as well and again you will never know, you may hear sead that some one has put poison out around the place and it got there dog and again well done it should not be out on its own would they like to pay you for the damage its done to your ewes and lambs Trev
