regarding Silkys . Why is it after there three years old they just keel over and die, without any warning at all. All the birds i have have done the same thing except for the rooster that little bugger keeps on going strong as ever any ideas would be great on this one. i have one in the pen she will not eat or drink just lays in the one spot i get her up each day she still will not respond Trev

I think it may be a line thing as I've heard of the same thing in other breeds, marans and pekins come to mind especially. have you tried a totally unrelated line and crossed to your rooster ?

Yesterday (New year's eve) we found "Marco" our black Silky, & our very first chicken had passed away, he was given to us by a friend of our's as a pet for our 10 year old, I had him housed with 4 x 13 week old Isa Brown hen's for company< & I dont know if he overdosed on the female company or just grew old, as we are not aware of his age........ Good-by Marco.
