2 of my hens have gone clucky, usually I dont bother giving them, I usually just put all the eggs in the incubator, but I thought after seeing fluffychooks hen with the babies I would give it a go. Gave them 6 eggs each, the gold lace hen not problem she stayed on them all day, but the Light sussex, I think just likes the idea of having a nice nest all to herself, put the eggs under her, she shuffled them around and wriggled and squirmed and I thought isnt she a good girl she getting all the eggs placed properly underneath her, went back ina hour to check them , gold lace still sitting, but the light sussex had turfed them all out, put them all back again, went back again and this time she had made another nesting spot right next to the eggs, I put them under her again and went back to check her a while later and she had left them again and gone back to her original spot, I eventually gave up on her and brought the eggs back inside, so looks they are going to have to go in the incubator. She apparantly only likes to look like a mum but doesnt want all the hard work that goes with it. so sorry to say its the sin bin for her.

Well she isnt a silkie is she...lol Funny thing with my silkies is they keep nest hopping all the time. There are three nests with three lots of eggs on them and three hens. It is first in best nest. They are happy to sit, but don't really care which nest it is. My mum and bubs are so cute, just checked them and the chicks are climbing all over her and she just sits there, very tolerant mother.

Well H7 our best mum is a gold laced as well. She is actually too good a mum. With her last hatch she didn't want to let them go. One of her boys were crowing and still snuggling under her. We have a Buff Cochin that apparently wants to be clucky but dosen't want to be moved from the main nest box and will not sit on any eggs. Her sister hatched eggs but didn't want to know after six weeks. I thought cochins were supposed to make good mums! Never mind we have an incubator. Not quite the same though.

Sounds like one of mine, had been sitting for a few days, attacking me, so i thought ok i'll move you to your own next. Nope she would not sit and just cackled and walked the fence. Then i turfed her out and put another one in her place, who sat tight and is being a great mum to her eggs. Stupid hen that "was" broody, has now decided not to be broody anymore. So ahwell atleast i got the eggs covered by one of them!

Well the gold lace is still sitting on her eggs, fingers crossed, the light sussex is still having a phantom cluck. and going by what squeak says with her hens, the incubator is definitely the easier way to go. But I must admit not as much fun.

hehe ohwell atleast you might've gotten one on there! I have this little hen at the moment who's gone broody, and she is the nicest little thing, i feel bad that i'm not going to put eggs under her. Just don't have enough room for them!
