their beaks are a bit pale and their posture a bit flat for pekins, they could be aylesbury crosses, as i think an aylsebury has a more pinkish beak than the ones in the pictures............my disclaimer is i am still learning with heaps and heaps and heaps more to be kknown about ducks

Thank you. We suspected they looked more like Aylsebury but we are no expert either so we were wondering if Appleyards could be just plain white... How long will it be before we can tell if they are ducks or drakes? Cheers :-)

They dont look big enough for pekins .Mine were towering over poultry/roosters at 2 months and not heavy set enough ,I would say Arlsbury cross .Poss cross appleyard (I dont know the Appleyard genetics if crossed with a white breed , but I have never seen white appelyards) Re sexing My Pekings and Indian runners are just 4-41/2 months and the drakes are just getting tail curls . The quack difference is earlier but in white ducks its hard remembering who is who . I sold 3 pekins early and the remainder I got...-- pekins I got 1 duck 4 drakes !!! !!! Indians 5 ducks 4 drakes .

We have Aylesburys (Purebred) and they are a lot bigger heavier bird than these. Aylesbury have a lot heavier bone structure which is quite obvious through the head and legs, they are also a lot deeper in the keel - even for ducklings. Aylesburys should grow biggger and faster than Pekins too. My understanding is that Aylesburys are white because they carry double gentics of Reccessive White. I haven't hatched crossbred Aylesbury but I would have through an Aylesbury crossed with a coloured bird would end up in a coloured duckling unless the other duck also carried Recessive white or dominant white genes. I am not sure but I think Pekins are dominant white? I would say these are crossbred. Having said that we also have Swedish and they through the odd white sport (apparently from crossing way back with Aylesburys to try and get a bigger bird). Our Swedish are a lot more this finer body shape. A more elegant bird than the Aylesbury These will make lovely backyard birds. Listen for the noisy girls and the boys will develope a husky, whispery quack. Girls will just make a lot of noise! If you want to identify them early on - just catch them (from about 6 weeks) and listen to their voices, pop different coloured cable ties on their legs to identify them easily. Don't do the cable ties up to tight though, but they are easy to cut off and change.
