Hi everyone I am curious what other chicken lovers feed the chooks and why they choose that feed, I have heard of many diiferent and unusual varieties of feed and am keen to know what others do. I use Thompson and Redwood layer pellets with the ocasional mix of wheat, sunflower seeds, crushed maize and dried lucerne. Plus there 3 weekly dose of greens from my garden. Which is lately on a self serve basis!!! I must fix the garden fence. Cheers all Linda

i buy super poultry mix from merredin, and that goes into their feed hopper. i also buy thompson and redwood poultry mix, which i use as a scratch feed on the ground.
the birds seem to be doing well on them both.

Cunderdin Super Poultry mix, half and half mix with seconds wheat, greens everyday. Have noticed big jump in egg production since using Cunderdin mix and they rarely waste any if at all. Once a week,4 times a week in winter, the chooks and ducks get bran and oat mash with garlic and molasses (they go stupid for it) just because that's what my grandparents used to do and the girls shine with health and less worms! Plus we've had a plague of cockchafers (or Christmas beetles to the kids) and the kids have set up water traps for them and they get fed to the chooks in the morning for extra protein - mega boost in egg production! Plus being harvest the girls get any spilt seed from the hoppers under the silos. Being married to a farmer does have some benefits - if only for the variety of chook food!

HI Guys I am still mixing my own feed Bran, pollard and meat meal and wheat at night this time of year I manage to get hold of canola so they get a bit of that and love it my egg production is always up I do sell about 8 doz eggs per week to the local shops and I keep all my blue eggs they make great omelettes and scrambled eggs I do try a ration that I get from the local shop and they get it from Perth and the eggs drop off a bit so I stay with my own I have tried the Cunderdin food mixed with 50 % wheat they seem to leave the dusty bits I think would be the meat meal and the like in the bottom of there hoppers then I mix it up with there normal mix and they eat it that way I should have stated I do use a starter for the chicks for the first 6 weeks Trev

I do the same as jacquie -superpoultry and thompson & redwood poultry mix . Also they get Red hen freerange or red hen layer grain mix from time to time (i like it as it seems to have a coating of vit B mix and the birds dive for it ). Mine also get sprouted grain or soaked wheat 3-4 times a week . Greens & garlic when I can get enough
