Hi bubbachook, during the colder months I leave my chicks under lights day and night till 6 wks, then for 1 wk only at night and then 1 wk no lights at all but they stay inside till 9-10 wks and then I put them into an outside pen. warmer months I start the turning the lights off during the day at 5 wks, then 1wk only at night then 2 wks inside then at 8 weeks they go out into the big pen, this is also subject to how hot the weather is as well, I like my chickies to get as much benefit out of the food to go into growing and not just keeping them warm, I dont know if it makes any difference in their growth rate but I just like to make sure.

whoops forgot this, during winter if it is a nice sunny day when the chicks are off the lights completely I do put them out onto the grass for a pick.

I've been wondering this myself actually. Mine are just over two weeks old and I think they're getting too big for their brooder so have been wanting to put them outside for an hour or so a day, but its too cold out side now anyway so i'll wait. hehe.
