Hi guys, i have a problen with a hen scratching all the wood shaving out of the laying boxes. I dont know wich one it is but everytime i put new new shavings in there out in half hour. I tried at night but same thing? What can i do?? thanks

Hi stephenkristie they will do it all the time I use straw and they still do it so you can put a strip of wood along the bottom of the box that will stop anything coming out hope this helps you it only needs to be 25 mill or so wide Trev

I had the same problem except it was a rooster. When he was big enough we put him in the freezer, problem solved for now.

hahaha nice. Lucky for this hen we just got her shes a barnie about 14months old. I sat today and watched after putting fresh bedding i. I already have a lip of about 50mm so stop it but she is so full on she does it till its empty? any other ideas? Would a round entry help instead of a square one? Thanks guys

I think you'll have to try various material until you find the one that she likes. It must be something she doesn't like. My rooster was doing it everytime a hen goes near the box, preparing the box for her. Thank god he was the only one doing it.

I have Barnies and they always empty out their boxes. I have tried all types of bedding and not much changed! I think it's just the way they. Cheers linda
