I did a no dig garden this year for the first year, to find out the difference between the two Dig and No dig. The only thing I could get to grow in the no dig garden were pumpkins, by the truck load .melons, tomatoes, onions, beetroot, and all the other veggies did not want to play. but the pumpkins I have now got drying 60 QLD Blues 30 butternut [second lot I put in] and 20 jap enough to keep the whole community going all winter I have given away a good few so far and have a few late ones to gather pity the rest of the stuff did not grow as well. How did you all go this year. Bearing in mind that it was a verry hot for us I think we did ok Trev

Would love to see some pics of the gardens . Our vegies didn't fair any where near as well as yours, well done, hot weather, drying winds and severe lack of water didnt help. Have our winter vegies in styrofoam boxes so will see how they go.

Thanks to the dust storm, our vegie patch was a "dig-out" garden. We have had to remove around about a foot of sand off the top to get to the dark composted stuff underneath. My poor tiger worms couldn't cope with sand so have been feeding them up on kitchen scraps and the depressing results of my lettuce planting (WAY too sun and drying winds) and they are recovering really slowly. About the only thing I grew over summer was pumpkins and more pumpkins -- thank god we love pumpkin soup!

We had the same as you did farmchook weather wise, but I hate purchasing veggies unless I have to . I paid the price for it I had a $ 790.00 water bill for my trouble. I have posted a few shots just down this page a bit in [ No did veggie garden ] I am still picking them . We have had no frost yet and that's good it is cold at night now so I cover my sweet potatoes up so they will not get bitten should we have one. We also had the hottest driest summer this year from memory for about 30 years and that did not help us at all better luck with the winter veggies. I have just put in red flowering beans, broad beans, cherry tomatoes, along with all the brasicas lettuces, onions, Swede , parsnip garlic, radish, beetroot, and carrots to name a few hope we have some rain soon as in the last 8 months we have only had 4 mill I have just planted the paddocks and its a dust bowl like everyone around hear look on the bright side ;D ;D Trev
