Tuesday 9/9 0 Dark Campbell (1 duck, she has been laying uptil a couple of days ago) 3 Silkies (5 hens) Looks like 1 is going broody she was in the nesting box twice on Tuesday and then spent the night there. This morning she was out but then starting sitting just in front of the nesting box. Was a little indignant when I picked her up and put her in the right place, but settled straight away. She is still there.

I would love to put eggs under them, but after consultation with the family we think we will not do it this time as the incubater is going and as this is my first go with babies. But I was thinking overnight maybe we could put some of the duck eggs under them. What do you think. Will the eggs be too big for them?

I'm so glad my broody hen is a nice broody. She lets me take her eggs and have a look, then put them back. Poor girl's going to be annoyed with me today, i'm taking them all out and putting some silky eggs under her.

Thanks for that H7, it is good to know that people can use chickens. I thought it was funny the bit about a duckling trying to take a dust bath. I will try to candle them in about a weeks time and see what is happening. Hopefully they will be fertile. We have been eating the duck eggs uptil now and looking at them after cracked opened to see if they were fertile and we suspect a couple were.

Must be the weather, last two days I have only had 1. My white hen has stopped laying but sometimes still goes through the motions of sitting on the nest, gets off and nothing. Weird.
