Boy, I have all the luck this year. I had to go to Perth for a day and a bit, I got home went down to the veggie patch and there it was ALL GONE. All the beans chomped, and left on the ground the pumpkin, the same carrots ,potatoes, lettuce, zucchini, the whole lot all chomped up. "Nice mulch" I have had trouble keeping the parrots off the garden this year, well all the time I have had the Garden down there. MOH and I were talking about how we could keep the little Bu#$@#%^* out then she then told me of an idea she had. We are spending loads on keeping them out why done we move the veggies to the bits of ground in-between the orchard rows, its all fenced in they cant get at it we have retic there. All I have to do is to move the whole lot to its new home, as I did before when MOH wanted the pool in place of the veggies. This will be the second time I have had to do this. thinking on it its a great idea at least we do not have to spend anymore on it. looks like I have a load of work on in the next few weeks ;D ;D my veggie patch is 20 Mtrs wide by 35 mtrs long and 360 mill deep "OUCH" Heart attack member 6 on its way at least this should be the last time I have to do it. oh Trev you poor thing that does sound like hard work !!! nasty birds ... the last time we had to shift heaps of dirt my hubby hired a bob cat from coates and then showed me how to drive it ... great fun and we shifted a lot of dirt in 2 days . I recommend it as we had a dingo before and not as useful ... let us know how the lifting and shifting goes Trev

Wouldn't it be easier to net the veggie garden, or have I missed something? Mike

HI Mike I have the orchard netted and nothing gets in there to net the whole veggie parch would cost plenty and I do not want to go that way rather than doubling up on netting and all it was easier to move with thought I will use the tractor take down part of the orchard netting and fit it all up The other option is to exterminate all the bolt cutters for that I would need a truck load of ammo me thinks its better that I move Trev

Hi Trev, Any chance of growing vegies between the fruit trees in your netted orchard? Or moving some trees to make space? You can transplant them somewhere else and individually net them which may be easier than netting vegies. Our problem at the moment is not so much the birds (he says looking at a carrawong sitting on the wire eating our loganberries) but the little moth things eating our brassicas. We're going to have to put a finer net over those beds, underneath the main bird net. Can't grow caulis, brussells, kale etc, but we've got tons of beans and peas, the spinach is great, the first zuchinni are just coming along and the pumpkin look promising. Bit worried about the tomatoes but they are always late starters down here. Mike

HI Mike I have just put the veggies in-between the trees this should give me enough room I have 5 runs I can use for the veggies still plenty of room for the trees to grow I thought it was a moth so I sat it out one day and shot 6 green and yellow things as they were eating or chomping down the tomatoes its like watching a forest fall I have left one bit and that was the no dig garden I started this year The Pumpkins, melons,Zucchini and the like are in full swing so I will leave them alone until there done then I can move that lot over there is about 40 tonne of soil to move that's why it has taken so long My Chamberlin is finding it hard work poor old girl Trev
