I've planted several nasturtiums in tubs with wire around them and placed them in the pens so the chooks can eat the leaves without killing the plants. Anyone have suggestions for other plants the chooks love to eat. Helps to make the pens look a bit brighter, too.

I have parsley and wormwood planted just outside the pen where they can pick at it. I read that they both were helpful. Other ideas would be great.

I've got wormwood but I don't see them eat it much. I also have cape gooseberries which they do eat. When they are out free ranging I watch to see what they eat but it is mostly grass and weeds, not bigger plants. Lettuce is a possibility. They love that and if I put it in a wire cage they can eat the leaves through the wire without pulling out the plant. I might give that a go. The guinea fowl love rhubard I've noticed. Haven't tried the chooks with that.

I've found they love Mexican Spinach, which thrives on neglect (my favourite type of plants), over summer when there's not much other greenery around. And our lucerne trees get an absolute hammering. Mind you by end of January the humans around here are pretty desperate for greenery too.
