Our cabbages, caulis and broccoli have all been attacked by flying aphids and we've been told there's a plague of them from Geraldton to Esperance. We have thousands, little white/grey flies or moths. We're going to have to put flymesh over those beds. Not sure whether to pull out the effected plants and start again or hope they'll come good once we've netted them. Any ideas?

Have never heard of aphids like that. We had lots and lots on the roses this year and heaps of ladybirds in the vegie patch so I started catching them and putting them on the roses. A friend said if I was relocating ladybirds I had too much time on my hands. I hope netting them will help Mike.

Know the feeling Mike! I ended up pulling out all my plants as they were covered in them even after netting. As if we didn't have enough problems with no rain - now the aphids have come to party! My artichoke plants seem to be a great breeding ground for the ladybugs though and I have been relocating quite few of them. Only thing that does give the aphids a hurry-up is a garlic and chilli spray with hot soapy water. If only my husband could have used it to save our canola!

we had the same problem. I was asked by MOH to spray with garlic spray so like a good hubbie I did as I was asked, the next day they were huge you could plainly see them on the plant and they seemed to be lager than they were when I sprayed the things. I only used garlic in the water perhaps I should have put other stuff in there with it. Needless to say I do not go near the roses anymore I am banned ;D ;D ;D I leave it up to MOH to tackle them now. I have no idea how she got shot of them but she did Trev
