Even though we have do have quite a few beautiful breeds of poultry in Australia, sometimes when reading poultry books and see some of the breeds that other countries have, you really wish that importation of poultry and eggs was not near on impossible to do, but then you read an article like this one www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_2035764,00.html of mass slaughter of birds, and of the high risk of human fatalities, you realise how lucky we are to have birds and know that the only diseases that we have to contend with are the main stream deseases like Mareks and IB.

I for one am very thankful for our quarantine services, even though they may restrict us and frustrate us we would be devastated if we had this happen to us.

I think this is where our problem is going to show up is in the migrating birds. Quarantine does a great job, but how do you keep disease out when the birds fly in themselves.
This is definately getting too close for comfort
