Hahaha! Good one! ;D (doubt it'll work though!) Just checked them all (AND managed not to get shot or arrested! ) The cheeky monkey had 28 eggs! 3 I am absolutely sure are no good - 10 I've put in the incubator (but they are of varying stages of development ) and the rest I've left under the ambitious mum to be! Will let you know what happens from here on in! (anyone want some chickens??!! )

Thanks! Still no action - she comes back regularly every two days for food and water - but no wee ones as yet There were a couple of eggs I left her with that were VERY dark when I candled them, like they would hatch any day. Could really rotten eggs look like this? Infertile ones in the bator always look clear??

I have cheeping inside the eggs in the incubator! Taken them off the turn, even though they aren't all ready but I figure they can't be far off!! There goes my next few days! Hopefully the ambitous Mum chook is having similar success - otherwise I'll pop a few under her! Yay! ;D

I've had 3 hatch so far in the incubator (with 6 more pipped!) and Mum chook has only one! I went to the tip shop this morning with the hopes of finding something to keep her in the chook shed until she gives up on the nest next door, but the only thing I could come up with was 2 large flyscreens Hopefully I'll be able to keep her in! I've got another broody that hasn't hatched her eggs (she had 3 but she abandoned them, I cracked them open to find 3 almost fully formed chicks - but they were dead ) So, tonight I'll pop some under that one and retrieve the other hen and chick and pop some more under her too! They are *supposed* to be speckled sussex (mum is) but all the chicks are coming out with no stripes so I'm betting they are speckled x light sussex!

8 chicks total under Mum last night! She ended up hatching only 2 herself (the rest in the nest were REALLY smelly! Eeeuuww!) and 6 hatched in the incubator. She seems well chuffed with her little brood - unfortunately the other broody decided that she'd had enough and got off the nest before I had a chance to pop any under her so all 8 are with super mum! Will try and get around to getting some pictures tomorrow!
