Well, OH is proud of himself and wanted me to post pics of his first dressed chook! (that he did himself anyway!) It was a light sussex x isa so not as meaty as he could have been, but he's tonight's dinner so I'm sure they'll tell me how he tastes! (I can't bring myself to eat him - he was such a sweet rooster!! ) Anyway, without further ado - OH invites comments on his handiwork!

Let us know how he tasted. I have heard that its good to keep them in the fridge for four days to make them more tender.. Any truth to that?

Hi Edwards, I hve no idea about leaving them in the fridge for 4 days, this poor soul was dressed this morning, then cooked - now eaten! I didn't par-take but.... they do tell me (6 kids, 2 adults) that he was DELICIOUS! He lasted about 4 hours from whoa - to - go!!!! OH says - probably better to rest them, but having said that, they all said he was the best tasting chook they have ever eaten! I only didn't eat him 'cos I'm the one that hatched, fed, watered, etc so to me he was a kinda pet OH saya - do it - you will never taste a better tasting chook! ETA - if I was not in 'charge' of the chooks -0 he woulda done another one for dinner!

HI ikbokchook He looks good, how old was he, and how large were the breast on him, only I found that the one I did had small Breasts ;D ;D and I am now looking to find a way to enlarge them. When I kill and dress them I do leave them in the fridge for a day or two that's all just to let the meat set. I am sure that in the old days they did not do it.They just caught it and did what you did within hours they were on the table . I found that the comments I received were the same as you its great the best we have had, and I would agree with that just the smell in the kitchen was enough to get everyone started Good on you Trev

Hey Trev! He was about 8 months old and the breast on him wasn't huge, but since he was crossed with an isa we were very impressed with how meaty he was! We WOULD have poped him in the fridge for a couple of days but Alex buggered up the dipping in hot water bit and basically cooked him slightly, so we thought it'd be best to cook him straight away! The smell of him cooking was *almost* enough for me to want to taste a bit Poor 3yo is now worried that ALL the chooks are destined for the oven! ;D

HI ikbokchook I am glad you did the deed on him pity you did not eat him though. I had to dress another 5 yesterday still looking for that extra meat on the breast. I hope that the Cornish will do that for me, that will be a great hatching to follow through to the oven one of the big boys is trying to get together with the girls but they do not fancy him just yet he has to put in a bit more hard work first Trev
