Hubby made this for me the other day. Its 1.2 metres long and 45cm wide. The lid is hinged and I'll get him to put some legs on it eventually. I have 6 chicks in it but it could hold many more!

Hi New2chooks,
I have a 75W globe. I'm seriously thinking about getting a ceramic or coloured globe as the white light is so bright I can hardly look in there to check the chicks. I'm sure it can't be good for their eyes either. The lid helps keeps some of the heat in too, but plenty of ventilation due to the open end.
Cheers.

I have used all types infre red / black-reptile , ceramic and ordinary .Mostly I also use a dimmer . The best I have found without a dimmer in a box that size is a 50 w ceramic bulb. I have 75w ceramic but I have had them singe there feathers on it and I have to add a dimmer as they get older .I got mine from Clucky-hen ,I think they still sell them.
