Hi Jake, welcome to WAP! What area are you in? Yes Araucanas have 4 toes. This is normal. Roosters will grow a spur, but would have been crowing for ages by then so its not really a useful tool for sexing. More likely by feathering and wattles/comb etc. If you cant load pics on here, just add them to photobucket and let us know. We can then direct you from there. Cheers, Wendy

;)iI am living in busselton wendy ,you helped us get these chickens from donnybrook (thanks). iWill try to get some photos, we have blue silkie (maybe rooster) and one very small brown -yellow silkie (not sure on proper classification on colour ,but she ( I hope ) is half the size of the blue and not overly fluffy. The aracanas are 2 lavenders and 1 black ( 1 lavender has a good crop happening and is larger than the rest ) rooster material i think . all the silkies are 4 months old and aracanas 3 months approx. thankyou for everyones help .

Welcome Jake, wendy is close to you so she may be able to help out with some more silkies. Post some pictures and we will have a go at sexing them. How old are they by the way.

I just spoke with Jake (aka Matt) on the phone and he is going to try adn get some pics on. The chooks in question are about 3 months old. The smaller silkie sounds like a runt or dwarf maybe? I have a Pekin here that was half the size of its brothers and sisters up until recently. She has now started to catch up. I wont be using her to breed with though.
