Planning to grow some plants in tubs and put them in the pens where the chooks can eat them through wire netting. Starting with some nasturtiums. Anyone got recommendations for plants the chooks like and/or are particularly nutritious?

I've got tansy and parsley growing on the outside of my pen and the chooks peck through at them. I read that they have medicinal properties.

Lurcerne (tagasaste) is an excellent stock feed, also is a good nitrogen fixer. You could even plant it in your pen for shade as well as green pickings, loves being pruned... Millet, Buckwheat, and Cow pea, All green manures, smothers weeds, controls nematodes, produces organic matter and good forage... Fat hen also known as Lambs quarters, use as spinach, nutty flavored young leaves and flowers can be used in salads, rich source of vitamins A & C. Linseed is only suitable for the grain...rich in Omega 3. All attract bee's, hoverflies and lacewings...the good bugs ;D Common old milk thistle they love too, dont know of the nutritional value. Just a few to get you started...hope it helps..Merrilyn
