Hi everyone. I have been a member since September and I love coming on here and reading everyones stories about their chookies. I have 100 acres in Boddington and am in the middle of building a huge new chicken coop with 5 different coops for my different breeds. Hubby says it will be the taj mahal of coops by the time we are finished. I have had chickens for years but now I want to get into breeding specific breeds.. they are just so addictive once you start breeding them. So I look forward to hearing more chook tales...

Hi Tona, welcome to WAP (belated), and yeah they are an entertaining, daggy bunch, don't ya just love 'em. ;D So full of wisdom also. Anything you want to know, just ask, there will always be someone who can give you advice!! Trouble is I could sit at the computer all day, reading all the hilarious goings on, some sad too. There will always be stories to tell when you've got chookies and other animals. We are practically neighbours, your just over the hills from us, we're in Nth Dandalup. Can't wait to see some pics of your new Taj Mahal when it's finished, you lucky doer. That's what I dream of, having seperate pens, all mine run together out in the paddock, I think if I locked them up I would be very unpopular.

Sounds like you've got the bug alright - once you start breeding them - you can't stop!! What sort of breeds are you going for? And yep - photos are a must - hehe! Enjoy!

Hi Tona and welcome to a great site, we all contribute tips and idea's and even empathy when needed. We all love pictures so please post some when you can. Oh apart from pens not being enough, then comes the incubator because you never have a broody hen when you need one and then the one you thought would be just perfect turns out to be too small as well. Oh by the way chickens are extremely addictive and there is no known cure (like we want one...lol).

Thankyou everyone for my lovely welcome. I will take some pics of the taj mahal in progress and let you all have a look. The coop I have now is huge and full of our feathered friends, so I will actually have six coops when we are finished our big project. Oh and by the way fluffychook I already have the incubator. That came a few years ago and I just filled it with isa brown eggs today. it is just a 16 egg one, but does the job for me..

At the moment in my existring coop I have 7 isa browns 1 isa brown rooster, 8 different colored silkies and 1 black silkie rooster 2 plymouth rocks and 2 indian runner ducks.. I can't wait to get them all separated into their own pens, but they all get on really well so they are not stressed. I would love to find some gold laced wynadottes, orpingtons and some more plymouth rocks including the roosters to go with them all... I have had a few fox problems lately and just last week lost a beautiful rooster, so we are taking special care in making the new coops fox proof...
