As you know we culled 3 of our roosters last week and they are in the freezer. They were being fed Westfeeds grower pellets and their webiste said it was ok to feed to meat birds till culling. I've just bought some Milne grower crumbles and it has the cocci stuff in it. Is it still safe to eat these rooster being fed this?

I would at least use a 10 day with holding period. Just in case....

12 weeks! Bummer! I've got a lovely sussex roo who's about 20 weeks (or more!) and he hasn't uttered a sound! He's still going for the chop though next week - unless someone wants to rescue him.....! I agree with lakelands too - if you can't find any info or they don't get back to you - can you feed him something else for a while just in case?

HI I feed my meat birds one way if you do not want the withholding time as I do not, and I do not want to use any growth promoters at all.so I stay away from pre made rations except for a starter ration for the first 6 weeks only. I use this, it was given to me by an old breeder from a long time ago. It consist of Bran Pollard and meat meal or fish meal, plus scraps and grain like Pease, wheat, barley, oats and sunflower seeds for oil not to many and just now and again, and a small run for sunshine and fresh air . this will take you a lot longer to get the birds to a good size but its worth it for the taste If you want a faster time go for the pre prepared rations . this is it I use a jug or a bucket depending on how many birds I have growing at the time. I usually have 20 to 30 on the go at one time when I do it . I will do a small one for a couple of birds a cup would be good for this 1 cup Bran,2 cups of Pollard,HALF cup meat meal / fish meal this is a dry mix make sure you do not cheat on the protein they need it. this is between 54 and 60 grams each bird . I always have grain ,wheat or any of the other or a mix of all depending on what I can get hold of, ready for them to eat at will, Pease are high in protein but they need to be ground up a bit I use a blender and pulse them. Kitchen scraps and any other tit bits you like. The sun flower seeds are full of oils / fat but they do love the things, I grow a load just for the chooks as they are expensive. I do not give them a lot of the seeds at any one time . Now having told you this my chooks are not ready to eat for about 6 to 9 months, you do get a good size meal out of the end result though and there not all ready at the one time. Hope this helps Trev

I haven't heard back from Milne but the guy I bought it off said its safe to eat chooks that have been fed Milnes pullet grower. I guess we don't really have 6plus months to wait as I have 3 x 14week olds that have to be put in the shed everynight due to their crowing. I haven't got any more cages and I must admit its a bit of a pain when your all showered and reclining in front of the telly for the night and then remember the roosters.
