We are new to WA poultry traders, funny how things go isn't I opened a WAP account 08/01/2010 under my pen name "Sherylree" and my husband opened one today 09/01/2010 as Nah71 so instead of using 2 accounts I thought I would just share his ;D
We are lower southwest rural dwellers, have always had chooks for eggs but it has only been since we moved back to our home town from the north that my husbands obsession with our feathered friends grew.
Gone are the days that we just had 5 or 6 Isa brown girls for eggs, the list of our friends grows everyday.
Pen 1: we have 5 Isa brown hens, 3 Malay game bird hens and a Plymouth rock rooster (he will be going soon as he is aggresive so we will be on the look out for a new one)
Pen 2: we have Big Bertie (beautiful Australorpe rooster) and his 5 Australorpe ladies (I haven't named them yet)
Pen 3: we have loopy Barnie (he is a truly loopy Barnevelder-not aggresive just funny loopy) sadly Barnie only has one lady so far (Henny Penny-original I know) and we are looking for more girls for his harem.
Pen 4,5,6,7: we have 35 chicks. We have a mixed variety that we have hatched through incubation or had under our broody Malay game birds (Good mothers-seem to be our only broody girls). We have however purchased 6 Plymouth rock chicks in the hope of breeding with our Plymouth rock rooster, unfortunately this will not be going ahead.
So that is our feathered lot so far but as I have stated it grows everyday, we currently have more chicks under a brooding lamp.
I used to at my husband's obsession but as the old saying goes "if you can't beat them join them" a truer word has never been spoken. I went out and bought a 12 egg incubater and it just sky rocketed from there........there is no going back
Hope to meet everyone here and share our experiences
