I used to go a few years ago, there was always tons of chickens, the only thing is they usually sell at the end of the sale, but they do have a big range. I haven't been for a while so they might've changed it a bit.

I havent been for a while either, but last time we went my hubby had a ball, fossicking through all the building materials and machinery (junk) but it kept him occupied while I looked at the chooks. The only drawback is if it is raining as it is not under cover. All going well, weather permitting will try and get there this week. Try and say hello, I will be the one sitting on my hands so I dont buy anything.

I go when i can.The birds there are not always up to scratch.Beware of leg mite, stick fast fleas, old birds and other not so wanted problems. Many roosters are taken and sometimes good ones turn up.Its not all bad,ive bought birds from there, but buyer beware is all.

I was there three weeks ago... It was raining and there were almost NO stallholders present...
I went looking for chooks... (keep in mind here, I live 1000km from the city and this was touted to be the biggest and best place to buy chooks...)
The Poultry present, was appalling...
There were a number of cages with some Welsummer hens and some Leghorn trios, which were the cream of the crop... but all mature birds.. after that there was only a few gages full of really mankey looking Roosters of various and mostly unknown breeds... one had scabs and sores all over him, another had a huge growth around his eye... not what I would buy, and certainly would not feel comfortable even offering for sale !!!
The next few cages held the ugliest lot of featherpecked Isa Browns I have ever seen, and in the second cage (of 5 birds) was THE featherpecker herself eating the tails of all the other birds in the cage!! Those poor birds had NO tails and were bleeding and screaming with pain each time the featherpecker took a bite...
I said something loud enough that the auction organisers who were nearby could hear, they cam they looked they walked away, as did we...
10 mins later nothing had been done... we were ready to leave at this point, I was not impressed, and definately not buying anything... My daughter got really angry and went to the office and told them that someone needs to do something in that cage or we will call the RSPCA... She then came back to me in tears... she was quite traumatised by the whole thing.... mostly that no-one seemed too intersted in doing anything about it...
Eventually someone came and removed the featherpecker from the cage, but Geeez.... if we hadnt made such a fuss, they would have been left for at leat another hour till the auction !!
After that, my first visit to the infamous"Mundi Markets"... cant say I am really keen to go again...

Thanks for the replies. I will still make a trip down, but definately with eyes opened when looking at the poultry. I hope they have done something about the treatment of some of the poultry, that is appalling. Good on you for saying something

Yes I went, glad to say the conditions they were kept in was not bad. A couple of cages/boxes could have been bigger, but the animals looked in very good condition. Unfortunately only silkie roosters today. There was rabbits, ducks, chicks, diamond doves, golden pheasant (he was gorgeous), budgies, zebra finches and of course lots of roosters of various breeds. Very few hens. Some of the ducks even had ducklings, so cute. I mainly went to check it out and on the off chance there was some silkie hens. I would go again. The markets side left me cold, just a another swap meet really.

I went as well and saw chookloop there, she said that as the season progresses there is more poultry up for auction, so I'm going to keep going down and having a look, you never know.
