HI All I am new to the site I live in the wheat belt town of Doodlakine, we have about 5.4 hectors, we aim to be as self sufficient as we can. " The question" I do not know how old the pullets are, they have in the last two weeks shown all the signs of laying bright red comes and wattles. Alas not an egg to be seen. One of the cockerels I have is just about trying to crow but cant get it out yet, all got at the same time. Has any one any idea how long it is likely to be before I start to get eggs the Sussex were a mixed bunch in age,The idea is to breed for eggs and meat, any help would be great Trevor

Hi Trevor, welcome, we also have light sussex and they started to lay at about 26 weeks. I can't remember when the rooster of the same age started to crow. Shea

Hi Trevor I can't help with your question about laying age, but do your girls free-range? Maybe they are hiding their eggs from you.
Welcome to WAP!

I think it wont be long now before you start finding some eggs. Anywhere from 5 to 7 months depending on what season they were hatched. Cheers, Wendy
