Hi everyone I have an excess of roosters and i am thinking of taking to Baldivis poultry processors to be turned into eating birds. What age is the best for roosters to be eaten. This is strange to write as I am used to the shop version! I live in the hills is there a poultry processor plant closer tom me? Thank you Linda

Hi Linda, we are planning on doing the same with our roosters and was also wondering at what age they should be done. Hubby thinks we are going to do them ourselves but I'm thinking the first few might be best done for us so then we'll know how tasty they are and be able to do them ourselves.

Hey guys, we do eat our own roosters (well, the OH and the kids do - I can't bring myself to eat 'em! ) OH has been doing it with his dad at about 8 months, or when they just start crowing, but they swear that it's too hard and takes them about an hour to do each bird! I think that Baldivis is the only place that will do birds for the public, but I could be wrong - I did post the same question a while back. I haven't had any to take there yet, but have one that is almost ready, but seems a long way for just one bird. They also only do the public's birds on Wednesdays and you have to be there before 9am and pick them up after 2pm, so unless you can kill 5 or so hours around Baldivis - that's 2 trips!! Hope this helps, and Shea - the kids and OH swear they are WAY tastier than shop bought chooks!
