I posted here a couple of months ago when my Australorp declined rapidly and died. At the time, after much help from everyone here and treating for several possibilities I ended up suspecting worms, but never found out for sure.
Last Monday another of my chooks started with the same symptoms, dropped tail and wings, followed by a dirty bum, then general weakness, I followed a similar regime to last time, but 5 days later she was dead.
I forked out $80 for a vet to do an autopsy on Saturday as I still wasn't sure what the problem was, and didn't want to replace her until I knew I could avoid it happening again.
The result WORMS, nastyevil#$&ingstinking WORMS!
In the first instance I treated with worm-enda only after symptoms appeared, so maybe it's fare enough that it's didn't work that time, but the second time she had been wormed within the last 6 weeks and was treated again when the symptoms first appeared. She never passed any worms in the 4 days between then and her death and the vet said she was 'full' of them. I don't think the stuff has worked from the start, either I've got a dud bottle of worming liquid, or the buggers are immune to it.
So... what brand wormer do you use, and are you sure it's working?
I bought a bottle of Piperazine today that I'm going to try... but it only says that it treats round worms, I can't find anything that does tape worm that's available in a small amount, I don't really want to buy a whole drum of sheep drench!
... and thanks for listening to my rant... I needed to let off some steam!
