correct Mallards are supposed to have a neck ring, unless they carry the dusky gene, which is a feather pattern, and if he is a dusky then he won't have a neck ring. Dark campbell's have a bottle green head pretty much the same as the mallard and the khaki's head is a very dark green almost chocolate, it didn't show up very well in my photo of my drake but in the sunlight his head has a bottle green sheen to it, in poor lighting it looks chocolate I've posted a link to a site which displays photographs of show khaki's so you can see what I mean www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Ducks/Campbells/BRKKhakis.html

Oh ok, thanks for all your help. Do you think he is a pure Mallard and her a pure khaki just carrying the dark gene? Well it didnt cause any problems selling the babies, they all went today, the first day I advertised!

I'm glad that they all sold for you, I thought the add in the quokka looked familiar without knowing the background of the parent birds, I would guess that the duck is a pure khaki, she may or may not be split for the dark, the drake looks like he could be a pure bred Mallard, from the photo's I couldn't see anything that suggested that they themselves are cross breeds. The darker coloured ducklings could very well be as a result of the mallard, there ducklings are quite dark when they are small. Either way, both Mum and Dad are very nice looking birds, and the main thing is that they produced 8 healthy ducklings for you, so it's not all doom & gloom
