Hello all
5 out of 5 Old English Game bantams and Old English Game/Siebright x have hatched.
Some are black feathered with black legs the others have light coloured legs and light colour brown with black streaks through them. Anyone know which of above could be which?
These I put under a broody Langshan until 3 days before hatch then incubated them. On Sat/Sunday my Gold Laced Wyandottes and Anconas should hatch. another 2 dozen in total.
Have another 20 bantam eggs under 2 broody hens.
MMMMMMM could become quite addictive this hatching thing! Anyone have any Silver Laced Wyandotte Eggs for sale? also after light or speckled sussex soon.

Hi Andrew congratulations!! I am thinking the black legged chicks will be the sebright x chicks as sebrights have dark skin and the other chickies are the OEG pures. We would love some pics if you can manage it Sounds like your going to be very busy with all the new additions! Cheers, Wendy

I'll get the camera out and see if I can gets some pics onto a message Not very techno savvy so we will see.
Ikbokchook I am in North Beach so not sure how far away that is for the sussex?
The chicks are doing well but boy do they make a mess, just changed the paper towel again. Will get them onto litter in a day or two, I have some fine jarrah sawdust but notsure if its a good idea to use that?

Sawdust is not good as they are still learning what food is and can eat it and die. Chaff is fantastic, straw or hay are really good too and wood shavings can be used. But my first choice would be chaff.

Hi andrew, North beach is - I think - miles away from me!!! I'm way south of the river, just past byford! If you are willing to make the trip I'm sure I can organise some - unfortunately my best layer just went broody though so I'm a bit short! If you still want a few, let me know and I'll start saving 'em up! Thanks! Oh - and I hope all your little chickies are doing well!

Ikbokchook,
Thanks for offering to put some Lights Sussex aside. I had better stop getting eggs for a moment as my gold laced Wyandottes and Anconas are all hatching and I have another 18 bantam eggs under two broodies.
I have had to construct a second brooder as I could end up with several dozen chicks.
Have not had much luck getting a picture on the site, To be honest not much time at this time of year with the veggie patch, chooks and 7 years old keeping me busy.
regards

No worries! I know what you mean! I have been a bit hatch-happy lately and am struggling to find space for all the littlies (also have a 7 year old too, and planted some new veggies in the patch today - phew! ) Good luck with all your projects and you can always post a request if you need some eggies

Don't feel to bad about the runts ;D I hardly ever put them down (unless they are really bad) and have some of them grow up to be beautiful birds! I know others don't do this as stronger birds make for stronger birds - makes sense - but I'm a sucker and always go for the underdog! Congrats on a fantastic hatch! ;D

I only put them down if they are suffering, if they are healthy I leave them.
