Got up this morning (Day 19) and had a peep through the window of the bator to find that about half a dozen have pipped through the shell. So I might have some new chickies by the end of the day ;D The eggs are from my Silkies and F Pekins and 9 QLD Silkies. Fingers crossed for some splash babies!

I know what you mean Wendy, its so hard to part with the lil bubs isnt it. Tina, with them starting this early you'd think the temp would be the reason but I dont think so with these guys as I've been watching the temp pretty closely with this being the first batch in the new incubator and the temp has been spot on the entire time. I'm so thrilled with this bator, wayyyy better than the other one. Electronic thermostats and fans are definately the way to go. My batches in the old bator were always 21 days or longer because the temp was all over the place with that wafer thermostat (and no fan). The huge viewing window in the new one is great too No chickies to report yet.

Theres now 3 lil chickies (2 Qlds, splash and blue; 1 blue F Pekin). When I checked a few mins ago 2 others had zipped right the way around ready to burst out and by the sounds of the cheeping I can hear coming from the room one of them has now hatched. So going great so far

Thats great Steph. Whats the difference between zipping and pipping?

Pipping is like pecking, eg they pip through to the air sac and then pip/peck a small hole in the shell. Zipping is when they nibble around the shell to cut it in half so they can get out
