my little pekin ducklings have now all grown up, i have 2 boys and 4 girls, it has been quite a education as it's the first time.my question is should i separate the boys and girls, the biggest male has been having his way with the girls, i've read it best not to mate until 6-12 months, is it too late already, i'm not sure if he's done the job properly but he is trying his best, love some feedback, cheers.

Hi Millypede, I have kept ducks for a while now, and in my experience, it isn't going to hurt them, you'll find for their first season the drake just usually fumble around quite unsuccessfully they spend more time falling of than they do actually mating, so there is nothing to worry about. There are people who say to leave it until they are older, but if you seperate the boys and disrupt their natural instinct, prepare your self for a very vocal display from the girls. My advice is let them go, they can't possibly hurt each other, it only makes us humans a little uneasy seeing what looks like a violent display of duck mating. Good luck, and enjoy your ducks!!

thanks, i'm building the new "duckery" at the moment and separated sleeping quarters aren't on the plans for stage 1, the last thing i need is the girls getting any louder
