Well I got an unexpected surprise yesterday arvo. I had just collected a couple of F. Pekin eggs (their first for the season would you believe) so I went to check the Pekin house incase they'd started laying too. Lately, with most being off the lay, I usually just pop my head round the door and check the usual spots but yesterday thought I'd have a decent look. Last year, in one corner I'd propped a piece of tin up in one of my attempts to outwit the crows Anyways, I peer over the tin and look what I discovered lol: 26 Mussie eggs and 1 lil Pekin egg Unfortunately not fertile though, as I lost my drake about 6 weeks ago. So it looks like I need to start doing some baking lol

WOW!! what a find I can vouch for Mussie egg quiche, frittata and muffins! Weve been using ours up slowly, plus giving and selling to people. I'm going to try a duck egg pavlova to see how it goes. I'll let you know.

Sounds good. I said to the OH yesterday, after showing him my "find" that maybe I'll have to try making a pavlova, so will be interested to hear how yours turns out Oh, and by the way, I will (eventually lol ) post some Pekin piccies for you. I tried to take some last weekend but I'm a crap photographer and most of them turned out blurry lol so I'll try again this weekend and hopefully manage to take some better pics. Their colours are really starting to come through now.

Looks like the tin outwitted you as well as the crows, what a great find. My mum used to make her fruit cake with duck eggs and home made butter, very rich, but very nice, good luck with your pavlova

Nah, unfortunately they're not fertile. So I'll just have to have some fun baking cakes I've left a few on the nest to encourage one of the gals to go broody, which shouldnt be to far off considering how many eggs they've laid. Then I'll pop some Indi and Bant Sax eggs under her.
