Hi all, I just wanted to tell you about what Ive been doing this morning. I have introduced one of my broody silkies to my ducklings. She is in their brooder at the moment "bonding". She has been broody for nearly 2 months and she kicked out the eggs I had underneath her . I felt sorry for her and it would be nice to get the ducklings out of the house sooner rather than later (they smell all the time even though their brooder get cleaned out 2 times a day). Shes been with them for a couple of hours now. To start with the ducklings were absolutely terrified of her!!I steped in and calmed them down and encouraged them out of their pile at the end of the box. It seems to be going really well, she has been making the "come and get the food noises" and isnt pecking them or anything so Im hoping that they will take to each other. The ducklings dont understand her mummy chook speak yet, but I guess they will get the lingo. So it seems the ducklings have a new mummy

If they don't seem to have it sorted by the end of the day. Try again by putting them under her at night when they wake up in the morning all toasty they will soon get the hang of it

I forgot to mention, yesterday morning Stormy had a bath and a blowdry!! hehe She was putrid as I had her in the ducklings brooder overnight and she was really wet and stinky! I cleaned out the box before I went to bed late and by morning it was really wet. She was very good about it and behaved herself. They all spent the night in the hutch outside last night. I havent checked on them yet, but they looked cosy last night.
