Well here are our latest additions, Romeo & Juliet a young pair of mandarin duckies, thanks very much to Brendon ( luv4ducks) who got these ducks to us all the way from vic! They spent last nite in there carrybox in our laundry as there flight got in late & they had a very stressfull trip over here so we wanted to relax them abit before letting them go. Today around lunchtime I put the carrier into the aviary near the pond & opend the door & left for them to make there own way out & i came back 15 mins later & there they were having a long awaited swim in the pond!! ;D they are still v shy so they scurried away back into the bushes when i got close so i went away & let them be....... have kept an eye on them from inside & im glad to say they have settled in really well!! I even got close enuf to take a few sneaky happy snaps of the new couple a few moments ago so here they are for you all to see........ Hopefully my pics work! i think ive finally fixed the problem but here goes! Romeo hiding in the bushes..... The happy couple relaxing by the pond....... they look like they have settled in well, Daves arent in their permanent house yet, as he wants to finish it off tomorrow and put their pond in and landscape and your photos have given him some ideas. The ducks definitely had a welcoming committee waiting for them last night at the airport. and thanks Brendon the boy is absolutely wrapped in them.

They look great Chelle, they look like they have settled in O.K,and recovered from there flight last night. I think that they are fantastic looking duck, and I'm glad that i had the oppurtunity to share these birds with you guys, at least between you, Judy, Judes & myself we will be able to establish a strong gene pool in W.A, and hopefully preserve the breed as a result. Can't wait until breeding season starts, although I won't get my hopes up for an extremely succesful first season, but fingers crossed

Well done Brendon, hopefully you will get great breeding results. At least you have created a gene pool now which is fantastic.

I Think it was a great idea of Brendans to get a few of us together to bring some birds over and get a gene pool established in WA, we should do it again with other breeds of poultry and waterfowl that are not available here or are very limited in numbers. Any ideas?

It might be a way to get quality bloodline in silkies or pekins! I know that over east the colour strains of those particular breeds are amazing, so that might be worth looking into

Unfortunately, there seems to be no known white mandarin ducks in Australia, there are however some reports of the Carolina Duck, which is a close relative to the mandarin duck, being captivlely bred in Australia, but they are very rare, and from my understanding quite expensive aswell. You can view a photo of the Carolina Wood Duck here, www.redbubble.com/people/lucindawind/art/2005876-2-wood-duck#Eventually, people will be able to get the white mandarin duck, show here, www.feathersite.com/Poultry/NDG/Ducks/Mand/BRKMandarin.htmljust by chance, apparently if you breed the normal coloured long enough, they will just trow a white every now and then, and that's the only way to get white mandarin ducks
