Please place your guesses here. Guesses can be made right up until the hatch date or when chicks start to hatch whichever the soonest.
Number of Eggs: 86 Date Set: Evening of 10th April Due Date: 1st May Breed: 74 Silkie & 12 Frizzled Pekin
Background of eggs set All my own eggs, none posted. Set in incubator. Bear in mind that, as mentioned in another post, some of these Silkie eggs are 4 weeks old. Silkie eggs laid by pullets 6-9 months old. Frizzled Pekin eggs laid by pullets/hens aged 6 months-2 years. For those interested in guessing colours: Silkie roosters/cockerels are buff, white, partridge, grey. Silkie pullets are partridge, white, silver. Frizzled Pekin rooster and cockerel are both blue. Pullets/hens are blue, splash, black, gold birchen, buff, partridge.
Hatch is monitored by Cluck N Waddle
Please state what date you think they will hatch
If more than 1 person guesses the correct number of chicks hatched , then the hatch dates are considered. If the correct number and dates are not guessed, it will then go to the closest guess in the same sequence.
Good luck everybody

Well guys, we've just got home a lil while ago after being out all day to discover that the power has been out. From looking at the time flashing on the alarm clocks, it went out for around 2 hours. So chances are this batch is stuffed. But only time will tell I guess..... Am so pissed, the one day I'm not home the blo*dy power has to go out! Grrrr! On a brighter note, we were out at the annual Lions Auction in town. I scored a HEAP of corrugated iron so now I can start building the houses for the new Silkie pens. Also got a couple of big carry cages (dog size ones), they've got a small hole in each one, but will be easily patched up. $5 for both!. Perfect timing, as I'm picking up my new RIR cockerel next weekend and was wondering what I was gunna use to bring him home

Don't worry Steph, hopefully the hatch will not be affected. The weather though cooler than desired was not freezing so there is definately hope for them. Great pickups, well done.

We had our incubator without power I think overnight due to my darling little nephew fiddling. He even left the lid opened and all the warm air escaped much quicker but we left them in there and still ended up with a great hatch. So you never know they might still be ok.

Thanks guys, I've got my fingers crossed. Your story gives me more hope Shelle I will post a piccie of the RIR boy Carolyn. Here I was thinking that I was going to have a spare pen once the Silkies have moved into their new pens but no lol, I had to have another "idea" didnt I I'm going to run the RIR boy with my Light Sussex pullet and a barred Plymouth Rock pullet/hen to produce some sex-linked chickadees

Oops - the date they will start hatching is April 28th. As for the power blackout, you should all go solar and you won't have this problem!
