Hi All .....I am so excited. My geese have started laying. I found 2 eggs in the pen this morning. I was quite surprised as last year they did not start laying till much later. June I think. I am still deciding whether to leave them for the goose to sit on or take them away and incubate them as I had so many losses last year. Last year the first nest all hatched OK and they were all looked after well by the whole clan but the subsequent nests were a disaster. The little goslings hatched but the gesse abandoned them many died quickly or got trampled. I rescued some only to loose them to crows later.....Such a delima. Steph have you seen any action from your sebastopols yet....

Going by your previous experience i would put them in the incubator. However it would be a lot more work.Maybe a quite separate pen away from the other stock might be the way to go. I hope you have more success with your geese this year.

oh how exciting i would incubate also if they have abandoned them in the past ...It makes it a hard decision when you have to take the egg off a mum that looks like she will sit but then ditches them later goodluck i love the goslings sooo cute !! I wish i could have some maybe soon if i move lol

Hi Lakelands, If it were me I'd put them into the incubator, there is nothing more depressing that a broody who all of a sudden abandons the nest when there are just days to go, I've had it happen to me and it's not a nice feeling. Good luck

Hehe must say, I'm the opposite I reckon stick with the goose. At least with the goose you don't have to worry about keeping the humidity just right and misting the eggs in the bator etc. They obviously know what they're doing coz they raised the first clutch just fine. Sometimes things just go awry, they may have had their reasons for abandoning/trampling the other bubs. But hey, thats just my opinion

I might leave the first nest and see what happens....biggest problem I will have is they will lay around 10 eggs each per nest....then incubate over 4 weeks which is right when I am due to go away for 3 weeks....So may also offer some eggs up to you guys to try and incubate if any one is interested
