I put four eggs under two broody hens just to see if my rooster was doing his job. Well he sure is. The eggs were due on Wednesday and I noticed this morning when I was down in the pen that one of the broodies was off the nest. So I thought I would have a listen, got the shock of my life as the first one was scratching loudly, so I picked up the other one thought that a bit of old shell was stuck to it and flicked it off. OH NO, it was pipping, so I quickly put it back. So I thought if this one is pipping I want the other broody to go out and have some breakfast as her two eggs might be pipping shortly too. Picked her up and there was a chick under her. What the....I apologised to her and put her back, not knowing if the other one has pipped or not. So I took the grandies to school and started setting up barriers so the other chooks don't harrass them. Especially one young rooster who thinks one broody is the most beautiful girl and she wants his attention, NOT. The little chick must of hatched last night as it is all fluffy and looks emu coloured. I will get some pictures as soon as they let me.

Lol yes they do Hmm ok interesting, when you said emu colouring I was imagining the brown with racing stripes like an emu chick. Btw, Queenie is laying like a lil trooper lol, no doubt she'll be broody shortly She's matured into a beautiful hen Princess is looking lovely too but not laying yet and Duchess is going through a lanky stage at the moment.

That's great Tina, bet you are pleased. Let us know if any more hatch. It's good to know that the rooster has proven his worth. No Pot for him LOL. and Steph I hope you have been saving Queenies eggs for when she eventually goes clucky. I have also found a sneeky liitle hord of eggs that one of my chooks has decided to sit on there's 14 in the nest. These are from my cross breed pen so could end up with anything. I am not even sure how long she has been sitting but I think at least since some time last week. I only just realised she wasn't running around in the pen over the weekend and though she had escaped. but I found her sitting on a nest hiding behind a pot in the other house. So much for not hatching out any more cross breeds LOL.

Just checked under the hens, much to their disgust and all four have hatched and they are all emu coloured. I will have to wait until mums go for a walk with them to get some pictures as they are not wanting to come out yet
