Have to be in Albany - a one and a half hour trip - by 9 am today so got up at 5.30 as usual with plans to feed the chooks etc and get away soon after seven. Trouble is its still dark! Daylight saving!!!! Have to send this, have my brekkie and shower etc and then do the chooks in a rush as soon as it's light enough to find them.

Yeh! I know what your talking about, wouldn't it be better if it finished at the end ob Feb instead of end of March.

Sorry guys I am an advocate of Day light saving because I work in an industry where we have to deal with the eastern states and it's a nightmare trying to get anything done after 2pm in the afternoon with out daylight savings. However I am for finishing it at the end of Feb as a chooken fancier for the same reasons as you all. I am starting to run out of batteries in my torch when I have to go feed the chooks in the morning.

lakelands, you should go out and get yourself a rechargable torch, never run flat unless you don't plug it in. Got the charger and torch right next to my bed where it's always handy.. A big mag light that can also be used as a weapon for self defence should the need arise. My neighbours got broken into the other night whilst they were asleep. Lucky they woke up and the low life fled the scene before anything was taken.

Try a wind up torch you don't have to buy batteries or plug them in to the power supply. Some also have a built in radio.

I like daylight savings because when I get home from work, theres still plenty of time to do stuff. I can potter in the yard or take the kids to the beach or the park etc. I hate getting home and its nearly dark in winter Its much nicer to be able to pour a glass of wine and water the garden, having a chat with the chookies and ducks etc. while teas cooking. So relaxing after a day at work.

Oh I am totally with you there Wendy.....I can sit for ages watching the chook antics.... it's my stress releif and wind down after work...Must admit though tea seems to get later and later in summer as I forget to come in sometimes.

There are good points and bad for both. My husband is not one to sit and he bets very frustrated when it is still light and his granddaughter comes to say goodnight and he hasn't even had time to sit down with her. Getting the children to sleep is a nightmare. They seem tired all summer.

It was ok while the kids were on holidays cause we didn't have a routine but it was really hard to get them into bed by 730 ready for school. I was finding that 730 came around and we hadn't even eaten because it had only just cooled off enough to go outsdie and water the garden, play, etc.
