Iv'e heard that in humans the younger the mother is when they have a baby. That children have a much better chance of living to a ripe old age.I wonder if it might be the same with chickens.

I havent checked all the other eggs yet, mumma is sitting tight and was highly unimpressed earlier when I picked her up to see how many chicks there were so I didnt wanna push it. I did grab one egg that was just under her wing and had a quick listen and it was pipping so theres at least one more to come.

Latest update: Mumma chook now has 5 chickies, the latest one is black (yay!). Oh, and the silver one is bearded (yay again lol). I listened to the remaining eggs and theres still one more chick to hatch, its cheeping madly in the egg. Will candle the other eggs tonight. Saw the cutest thing earlier today. Mumma chook and bubs are in a little rabbit hutch at the moment which is in the Pekin pen, and the Muscovies are currently residing in that pen. Anyways, the oldest chickie was playing around mum, when the mussies came over to fuss around the hutch because they could see the chick crumble in there (typical mussies ). The chickie saw the mussies and came running from the nest all on its own over to the wire to investigate the muscovies. It was so sweet, wish I'd had the camera with me

Awwww so cute, shame you did not have the camera, it will be good to see pictures. Only problem with having them mama is she is not always in the mood for a photo shoot. Just teaching us patience I think. I would love to see a close up of the bearded one so I know if my lot finish up with any, fingers crossed.

Yes, that final egg did hatch, tis a pale partridge type colour. The final number is 6, so I think that makes Rap the winner, being the closest guess with 7 hatching 18-19th? I'm really pleased with 6 chickies, its a great result from posted eggs especially at this time of year. Wish I'd hatched more buff and black but nevermind, there's always next time I'll try to take some piccies tomorrow. Mumma chook has been quite good with me actually, she lets me pick the chickies up without too much fuss. I'll try to get a close up piccie of the bearded chick for you Tina, they're easy to tell from the non-bearded, much fluffier cheeks
