I just got home from picking up my first Bantam Blue Laced Gold Wyandottes. 3 pullets and 1 cockerel. The pullets are 8 and 12 weeks old have dark blue lacing and the cockeral is 14 weeks old and has pale blue lacing. Don't think any will be show quality but have to start some where. And by crossing the light with the dark I may end up with some nice birds. I am also still hoping to find some more before next season to improve on the quality so I will have to be patient.
I will post some pictures once that have settled in ;D

Good yellow legs on one of them that I can see, I wouldnt stress to much as yet about the lacing, most chookens shed their feathers about 4 times prior to maturity and I was told today that apparently Wyandottes have 7. And as the saying goes, "you gotta start some where"

That's good to know. 2 of them actually have good yellow legs just the one that are pink. and the other one kind of in between

Steph Yes I did get them from Chittering...Did you see the add in the quokka or have you bought from them before. Tina, it will be interesting to work with them and see what I can develop and I am looking forward to going to the Wyandoote show to see if I can get some pointers on developing the breed. This will be the first time that I have actually started with some not so perfect birds to try and improve them so I will let you know how I go. Doesn't seem to be many people over here that have any so fingers crossed...

They are very nice looking chickens. What did you think of the other chickens he had? Because I'm going ther on sat to buy the last two blue laced that you didnt get. And was actually thinking of getting some partridge and pencilled ones. Just thought I'd ask your opinion Thanks lakelands

Hi Mandi. The guys are really nice. There place is very clean well set up. Not free range though all in biggish cages in a big stable. But they have some really lovely birds. I've got my eye on his Mille Fluers...Just gorgeous he's not selling them but hopefully he'll have some chicks next season. He mostly has Pekins Bantams aand they are WOW...eally nice looking birds. I didn't see the Pencilled or Partridge so can't comment on them. The blue laced are from some birds that he got from SA. I don't know much about the bantams be he recons they were average quality and not ready for showing. It will take a couple of seasons to get them right with some new blood lines introduced. Which I hopefully have coming next season. I will let send you some of my contacts if you are going into breeding them
Oh and Beck I think Bantams are a great idea can fit in lot's more chookens LOL

yeah that's what i thought Carolyn just have to convince my hubby to part with the trio of light sussex ( standard ) but i will keep the silver lace as they are the best silvers i have seen in a while and the rooster is HUGE and i did chase them down for about 12 months my hubby would kill me over that lol

Thanks lakelands. Right at the moment I'm not interested in showing as I have three young kids so they dont have to be of that standard. One day I hope to show. Thats good to hear what you thought of the place. Will see how many birds i bring home, hubby will be worried i think! LOL
