well it was my bday last week and i got 7 khaki campbells. 1 drake and 6 hens.they are about 5mthsw old. they seem to be so shy and scared all the time. you go into the pen and they all run to the other end like they are running to catch a bus.
they are scared of the other fowl too. when i open the pen door for them to free range they won't go out.
IS THIS NORMAL IN KHAKI CAMPBELL DUCKS?

Lucy my dark campbells were hand raised and used to eat out of my hand, now they won't let me within a metre and then they panic like I am going to do something terrible to them. So I would say it is normal. When I got my first ducks they were like your description, even to try and go through the fence, but they settled down and now are like my hand reared. It must be a duck thing. Happy birthday for last week.

The ducks are in a strange environment and frightened.Keep them calm and talk to them gently until they get to know you and their new address.Offer favorite food like fresh lettuce leaves and bits of tomato or the odd snail. Feed by hand and soon they will running to you rather than away..When filling their water bowl sprinkle some wheat in it they love to dabble for the food.

Happy Birthday Lucy and WOW what a great pressie! Lucky you. Nothing much to add really that fluffy and rap havent already said. My ducks are handraised like fluffy's and they still do the running away as if Im going to do something to them Unless Im sitting or squatting. They seem to not be so worried then and come to me for a pat and a nibble of food. They sometimes end up in my lap. Yours will get used to you in time, its perserverance. Enjoy your new ducks

Happy belated birthday Lucy. Not much to add really, its all already been said. The best way to a ducks heart is through its stomach lol. Have treats ready when you go out to them and you'll find that in no time they'll be running towards you when they see you not in the opposite direction

They are calming down and are getting better not running straight away the minute they see you coming toward the pen.But they still won't go out and free range.

Try the food and water bowls just out side the pen and gradually move further away to encourage them to come out .Keep the pen open to them at all times so they can run back if predators eagles/cats etc are about.
