god they are beauties both lots of birds are the pekin messy wendy ( i mean do they squirt out alot of cow pats everwhere ) sorry but i had muscovies and i gave them away too messy but it was my favourite time watching them bath oh and i got an old bath tub and used a piece of chain ( heavy stuff so they can't get caught ) for the plu pulled out the drain cover and ran a piece of pvc piping out the back and when it got gross i just yanked on the chain and off went the water wherever it was directed then hose it out and put the plug back ( although sometimes they would unplug it themselves that was a pain ) Hey Beck, yes they are really messy I suppose, big wet runny poos ;D ;D (but theyre totally worth it) !!

Beck firstly the geese I have are Pligrim geese and probably the most docile, so not much chasing going on. Though it would have been hillarious to see your OH being chased by one shame you never got to see it. The do chase the dog a bit though.....The only time they get a bit more grumpy is when they have nests or babies. Secondly they are very vocal and very loud when any one goes into the yard. I have a morning chorus when I let them out in the morning and at any time anyone goes near them. I reckon they'd give the guinea fowl a run for the money on noise. thirdley depending on what they eat you either get massive squirty puddles, or big long grassy poops all over the place and I mean all over the place. Fortunately mine are confined to an orchard which is great plenty of fertiliser....but a couple of times they got up to the house and seem to love the front door.....ewwwww. Also they shed masses of feathers every where But they are really gorgeous and very inquisitive. I call them my nosy parkers Also if you did get any you would have to get more than 1 cos they are very social and fret with out a freind

Hi Beck, I didnt mean to put you off. My ducks have learnt (sort of) that they arent allowed on the patio anymore. They stick to the garden. I have an average suburban block and my neighbors wouldnt smell them or anything. their pen has straw over the bottom which goes onto the garden or in the worm farm regularly. The Pekins are pretty vocal, but no annoying of you only have a few like me. There are ducks which arent as noisy. Have you thought about bantam ducks? When my mum moves to town she wants me to find her some. (So I might be after fertile eggs peoples)

Wendy Young Pekin ducks [female] do tend to be vocal as you say. They tend to be a bit like teenagers. You should find as they mature they will calm down and make less noise.Unless you forget their meal times then they will let you know!.

Hate to burst your bubbles guys, but banty ducks are just as noisy as standard size ones My 2 breeds delight in having quite loud conversations with each other various times during the day. And like yours Wendy, if you're even a minute late with their dinner they make sure you know about it! lol
