Sorry to hear that fluffy. What a bummer for you after waiting weeks. I hope your next hatch is more successful.

Hi fluffychook, it's nice to win but not nice to hear that the hatch was unproduction. My last hatch yielded 4 out of 12 and they are all roosters. Oh well, best of luck with your next hatching.

Wendy I knew weeks ago that they were not fertile so the disappointment was minor, I even tried another batch since then and still no good. I just put a some more under some broodies and will candle them in a couple of days, hopefully we will now have some fertile. The rooster has been very busy....lol Congrats Chooksrus, good luck with the scratchy.....I wish I knew how Steph is going, shame she is so far away otherwise I could of helped her out. I just sexed my last batches with my daughter last night and it looks like we have 10 hens, 4 roosters and 2 not sures. This is a great result.

How did you sex them Tina....and where they silkies or some other breed

they are silkies Carolyn, I looked at wattle growth (or lack of) in comparison to the others of the same age. I also took into account their combs.

These ones hatched on 11th and 18th Feb which makes them 2 and half and 3 half weeks old. Wow I thought they were a week older. This is the first time I have sexed them this early, maybe getting more experience. They may also change in the next couple of weeks so I will do it again and see how accurate we are.

What a bummer Tina Hopefully the eggs you've got under the broodies will do better. If they are no good either, then you'd have to think that maybe your roo is firing blanks?
