When someone has some eggs setting, how about we have a sort of raffle with people guessing how many will hatch, or the date they will hatch. With guinea fowl eggs we could guess how many will be pearl or pearl pied. I put a dozen guinea fowl eggs under a hen today and I have a dozen gold laced wyandotte eggs I put under a hen on January 8. Happy to use those to get started if anyone is interested.

Sounds great!!!! are you able to number them and to make it a bit more challenging we could also include if they hatch or not.

Of the three ideas I put forward it's probably better to keep it simple at first, at least until we get feedback and see the interest. So I suggest we make the first comp to guess the day the GLW chicks hatch and how many hatch. I put 12 under the hen on January 8. That means they are going to hatch in approx 8 to 10 days. The winner will be the first entry received with the right date and the right number that hatch. As I'm the one with the eggs, I'm the judge and I can't put in an entry. I don't think the prize is important. What have you used in the past? I think you mentioned a personalised mug in one post. A packet of sunflower seeds? Some leg rings? Box of chocolates? Tin of chicken soup? Chicken ornament? Packet of egg noodles? Bottle of wine? Gift voucher from Bird World?

It just occurred to me that they may hatch over more than one day, so the comp is to guess the day they start hatching and the number that eventually hatch. That way there will be more suspense. We announce that they have hatched - and who got that right and is still in the "finals" - and then how many hatched and who is the winner.

Yes, good idea. Drag out the suspense as long as possible lol. So whats the go? Who are we submitting entries to, Judy or Mike?

Thanks Mike, I will supply the prizes, and as it is possible to have multiple winners, the prize will be a scratchy (easy to post and not too expensive) have set up a special thread for entries and to place an entry, when you place your entry please state commencement date and finish date of hatch, and number of chicks hatched and you can only enter once.

Great Judy. I see we have the first entry. It'll be interesting to see how many entries we get and how it works out. I had a word to the hen and she says it's okay with her, just no-one come round pushing her off to check the eggs!
