Just starting a new thread so as not to hijack another and in response to last comment..... Oh so slow Wendy, we helped one breach duckling last night only to find it still had egg yolk, so we stopped and put it back. The other breach (can't believe we have two) made no progress over night so I have just zipped around the shell and some of the membrane, which had dried like rubber. I also moistened it a bit and put it back in the bator to watch and see if it can do it on its own. And the others, would you believe are still chipping, but no peeping. SOOOOOOO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been forbidden to do anything with those. Now that the decision is taken away from me I feel better, NOT. Hatching is so bitter sweet....lol Here is a better picture of the first duckling, why do they not all hatch like that one, a total breeze.

Oh fluffy, I really hope they can get out themselves then How come you cant help? I thought that if they were quite late and you dont see bleeding, it was ok. I wish I had helped my 2 dead chickies, then Star may have had a couple of friends. Its a hard decision to make. Yeah star hatched so perfectly. Its hard to understand why others have such a tough time. The little duckling is looking really good. I hope he has brothers and sisters soon My thoughts are with you.

Well I had to drop off some silkies and when I came home, the duckling that I had zipped around the egg had gotten out by itself and before I left I checked on the one that had the yolk. It had some shell still on and the membrane that was left was like concrete, so I moistened it checking all the time for blood, which there was none. I got it almost completely out and put it back in the bator to do the last bit itself. That one too was hatched, so I now have two very very tired little ducklings in the bator. Great news another has finally peeped at the right end. I will check the other two and see what is happening with them. One earlier was silent, so maybe too late.
As to the reason I was not allowed to help is Shelle says I always want to help too early, so I left the decision and repercussions with her....cop out I know.

Thats great to hear fluffy At least you've got someone there to tell you that you're not allowed to touch, I reckon that would a good thing. I convince myself of why I should help out and end up doing so even though I know I shouldnt. My OH wont saying anything about it, he just says, 'you know what youre doing' or watches me milling around slowly going nuts and tells me to go and do something to help them coz I wont sleep all night if I dont lol

Great news fluffy!! Im so pleased yes, Shelle's probably right. Its so hard to play god with these little bubbies. Not knowing whether helping is right or wrong. Im sure if theyre under a chook, we dont stress out anywhere near as much!! We just wait for mum to emerge with her babies, done! No hovering over the bator or sleepless nights waiting for them to pip. I cant wait to have a broody to put eggs under Although I think I'll be at my quota for poultry if all the eggs in the incubator hatch out in a weeks time. Were only meant to have 20 here. The shire wont know though, so Im risking a few more. Its just pen space I need. Kids have got to have room to play I suppose lol Well, Ive just got back from the dentist and have to have a filling in a months time Got a temporary one in atm. Im off to take some more nurofen plus. Keep us informed on teh other duckling wont you. Cheers, Wendy

Wendy don't tell her she is right, she will be impossible....I will get that look of 'told you so'....lol We just took the two ducklings out of the bator and put them in with Splat, the first duckling. (So named by my granddaughter as they are so clumsy). He/she was preening them and acting very excited. So much so we took it out for a bit of outside time to give the other two a rest. They are now both up and moving about. The egg that was peeping is doing well and hopefully will not stop until hatched (unassisted) I will take some more pictures soon

We now have four little ducklings, two which Hides is wanting to take. I finished up having to help a little with the last one as the membrane was very dry and it was stuck to it in places. Once I did that it was out within 1/2 hour. It has been a difficult hatch all round. Wish all was as easily hatched as the first duckling, peeped, zipped and out all in a couple of hours.

Just had Hides over to pick her ducklings, such a hard choice when they all look soooo cute. The last one to hatch looks like it has a funny eye, hopefully it will come ok. It does not seem to bother it which is good. I have taken some pictures but have to download them. I will do that soon.

Hides went home with her new babies and told her partner about the other ducklings including the one the funny eye. Before she left I said it looks like we will be adding more ducks to our brood as I don't think anyone would want a duckling with a funny eye. I then get a phone call and she tells me her partner has convinced her to come back for the other two. So great news for the little ones they will all be together again. I am going to take some last pictures this morning so will download them soon.
