I have been instructed by the Mrs to breed the table birds smaller. She finds the currently lot too big and bulky to cook. So may be I'll look for bantam indian game and bantam sussex.
Though I do like the bigger eggs.

Don't ignore the bantam RIR or Australorps they are supposed to be good and reasonable egg size

I was going to hatch some cross breeds from my lot but they disappointed me with on 3 eggs for the weekend! So I'll see what I end up with this weekend. Then I will get a dozen New Hampshire eggs as well.
Still not too keen on bantams to reduce the size.
I am keen to see what the IG/LS birds look like and more importantly taste.

How do you manage the mess ducks make? I just find them too messy. Otherwise I will keep them.

I have 4 separate pens two young growing pens two breading pens each has a half shell the ones you get from bunnings and the like that gets water once a week twice in the hot weeks each pen has water with there own drinkers its just the swimming that makes a mess in hot weather it soon dries out the winter is bad so i cut back they grow fast and eat well so its worth it and there great currency

Collected nearly 2 dozen eggs. Will set them tonight. These are cross breeds from my own flock. Hopefully the rooster did his job.
